Everblight conversions!

Hi everyone!

I'm a new contributor to this blog, and I hope my posts will be useful. To start, I'd like to talk about conversions, and let's say that it's hard to do in metal, and PP minis are mostly metal...
Well, my first army is one of the "spammiest" ones around (meaning to get really competitive you should use multiples of the same unit in a given army) and, as such it was necessary to modify some of the minis I happen to have in multiples. I'll showcase them here, hopefully it may set off some creative thoughts.

First off the Angelius:

I have two, and the one on the left is converted and looks kind of like an "8" or an "&" from the side. I'd say it is even more elegant than the original.

Next, the Seraphs (Seraphim?):

Don't they look surprising? Wings can be bent in surprising shapes on this model, resulting in the two converted pieces on the right.

Now, the sorceress on hellion, where it was necessary to convert both rider and the beast:

Well, you can see the ugly bump near the end of the tail. My skills with green stuff need some polishing.

Next, the deathstalkers:

Well, the model is practically one piece, and the only conversion I could think of is to alter the position of the sword hand. It wasn't easy.

I think those were my cool conversions. But creative process sometimes runs dry, and that resulted in a couple of rather lame conversions:

Yeah, the forsaken. I just changed the arm into a "Zeig Heil" pose... I really want an alternative sculpt... if just to fill up on various looking Forsaken for the Absylonia theme force... Perhaps in Domination...

Aaand my shepherds, also just a different angle for the arm that holds the stick... due to the size of the weapon and the influence it has over the figure, this one isn't as lame. Or I'm just comforting myself.

Anyway, that's it. Haven't seen a lot of conversion type pics for WM/H floating around... except for that winning battlegroup on CMON (pThag, Angelius and a Neph soldier, all converted), so I think I actually made a contribution here! In my following posts, I'm going to do 3 or 4 conversions step by step, explaining the basic idea and documenting with pics to a (hopefully) satisfying result.

Comments? Questions?

Cool Warmachine comic

I found this comic today at "Crtl+Alt+Del" website. I think it's pretty cool, because I know a lot of players feel like this while they're looking at the stuff their opponents got in the new book:

Dire Troll Mauler Cake

For some people, this is old news, but for the others - this is going to be a surprise. This April, my girlfriend made me a Dire Troll Mauler cake for my birthday. She is not a gamer, but she thinks that Trollbloods are cool and cute - so this is what I got:

The best part is that this picture was featured in Privateer Press Insider!! There was a thread about this cake on PP forums and I got a lot of replies, but I forgot to put that picture on the blog, so here it is now (two months later :D).

[New stuff] Legion, Legion and more... Legion

Today was a great day for me, at least when it comes to Legion models. Few months ago, I traded away my Khador for almost 70 points of Orboros. Unfortunately, I have played many games since then - and only a few of them with Orboros. Playing (and collecting) three armies is difficult, so I decided to trade/sell my Orboros stuff. And today, I traded a lot of Orboros minis for some Legion stuff. Suddenly, there are many new, shiny toys lying around, begging me to include them into army lists. So, here's what I got:
  • Blighted Nyss Swordsmen (min unit)
  • Blighted Nyss Swordsmen UA (I still need to assemble the Champion)
  • Blighted Nyss archers (min unit)
  • Raptors (min unit)
  • Incubi
  • Blackfrost shard
  • Nephilim Bolt Thrower (this one wasn't part of the trade - I bought it today at my local game store)
Here's my new stuff (picture's a little blurry). So many new models in just one day:

Now I have two units of Raptors (one of them is full), as well as Annyssa Ryvaal- so I will probably play Lylyth tier list very soon (maybe even this Wednesday). I have mostly played my fat pThagrosh list during last few weeks, so I really need to change things a little bit and play something different.

Windless Wastes League Results

So the league ends with Dejan proudly carrying the menofix for the Protectorate - converting the heathens from both the league and tournament. Well done to him. The tournament was an all to play for event for 5 players but, as it should have been, the atmosphere was relaxed and very friendly.

The 18th of April is just 5 weeks away and then the forces of Immoren saddle up to do bloody battle in the Thundercliff Peaks.

Shattered Ground Leagues Round Up - Week 3

The scene is set....

This Wednesday sees the start of the final week and the final chance for players to fill in the gaps and get themselves as close to 9 league games as possible before Sunday's League finale. With a possible 22 league points up for grabs on Sunday the race is still on but both Miroslav and Nemanja need another big win or two to get them in a position to make a challenge for the league.

Dejan's Menoth are the only unbeaten force left in the league following 2 back to back losses by Skorne last Wednesday. With games in hand Dejan can potentially put himself in a strong position ahead of Sunday's final if he can complete more matches. With a 75pt booked tomorrow against Skorne - a win will put him within 3 points of the leader with 2 games to play. Dalibor kept himself up with the leaders with a win over Cryx and 2 more big wins could see him jump up to the top before Sunday's final. Is it a 3 horse race yet? Not quite but the others really need to pull games and victories out of the bag in the next 5 days if they want to claim the winner's coin.

Windless Wastes Tournament - 6th March

The third week of the league draws to a close and with we enter the final stage of the battle. Rather than just carrying on as usual we are going to intensify things with a Tournament event for all 8 players. Entrants will get all the usual map points and commendation stamps and there will be a medal for the tournament winner presented alongside the championship coin for the league winner.

The event will take place at Sigil on Sunday 6th of March from Noon until 16:00 and have 3 rounds of action.
Round 1 25 points - Fight Club (8 mins per turn) (so roughly 20 pts of beasts and 10 points of warrior models - based on the warcaster/warlock having 5 jack/beast points)
Round 2 35 points - King of the Hill (10 mins per turn)
Round 3 50 points - Supply Line (No time limit)

For all events players can use of the advantages of all the territories of the global map and 1 different stratagem per game in the first 2 games and all the remaining stratagems in the 3rd game.

Shattered Ground Leagues Round Up - Week 2

The leadership race hotted up this week and culminated with Skorne taking the lead by a single point. Nemanja's Cryx moved into the 50 pt games bracket and he is poised just 1 win away from the leaders. A run of games by either Trollbloods or Menoth could see them quickly move up the leader board and with half the allotted time gone things are looking bleak for the bottom 3.
Snows are falling over the streets of Belgrade and that should inspire Shunka and Uros. Wednesday looks to be a busy evening with Skorne, Orboros, Trollbloods, Khador, Cryx and Everblight all confirmed as attending. The very ground will shake......

Shattered Ground Leagues Round Up - Week 1

The end of the first week sees Dalibor's Orboros in the lead with an impressive 2 wins and 1 loss. Skorne made an effort to catch up with 2 wins late in the week and Menoth and Cryx share the 3rd spot. New boy - Nemanja has yet to get a win but is learning the game rapidly and this has got him up the leader board.
Miroslav and Shunka lurk mid table and need a win or two to launch them up the ladder.
Uros and Milos are both yet to get off the mark yet but there's still plenty of time to make a run. Tonight at least another 4 games are expected including Orboros vs Skorne and this could see plenty of things change.

News from Templecon

It seems that there are many surprises at TempleCon 2011. There's a lot of information about new Warmachine and Hordes stuff on Twitter and here's a few things I found out:

  • 10 new warlocks for Hordes: 4 epics, 4 new, 2 minion warlocks and new character warbeasts
  • Anthology books are planned for 2012 (believe me, I'm confused as much as you are)
  • Wrath have 6 warcasters. Elves get some very cool stuff and a new story cycle.
  • IK RPG players will get something new and shiny (probably new edition of IK RPG
  • Game clubs without stores can now buy league kits. New league format offers a patch for each participant
  • Forums will support clubs communication. Cant't wait to see that one!
  • Seaforge gets some new stuff, but no one knows when. There will also be a new Rhulic caster.
If something new shows up - I'll post it here. So, it seems that we can expect 16 new casters until the end of this year. My wallet commits suicide.

    Cryx Army Book review

Our friends from Dreamspirit Wargaming blog made the video review of the Cryx Army book. Check it out:

Grim Angus Assassination List, 35 pts

Grim Angus was always one of my favorite TrollBlood warlocks (if not THE favorite). Last week, I got the Dire Troll Bomber and then I realized that I may have all of the key pieces for one nasty list. The list I am going to write about is for 35pt games and consists of a "core" part and the "flexible" part.

    The Core

These models make the core of the list:
    - Grim Angus (+6)
    - Troll Impaler [5]
    - Dire Troll Bomber [10]
    - Earthborn Dire Troll [10]
    - Lanyssa Ryssyl [2]
    - Troll Whelps [2]

That's 23 points. The remaining 12 points can be spent on other things, but I will cover that later. As you can see, Grim have a lot of tools here, and he can also give some great abilities to other Trolls. If you cast Cross Country on bomber, and also give it Impaler's animus, the Bomber will be able to sit behind the forest and throw POW 16 AOE 4 bombs at models up to 12" away. His real threat range is acutally 17" (SPD 5 + 8 + 4). If grim uses Marked for Death, Bomber will be able to hit models with Stealth AND they will get -2 to DEF AND he will be able to get them regardless of LOS. With Grim's feat and Marked for Death, target is in a BIG trouble. The same applies to the Impaler. So in the first case, grim can use his feat, cast Lock the Target, shoot at the enemy, and the Impaler and Bomber can finish the job. Do not forget that Grim can also knock the target down with his snare gun - this may be better option if the warcaster/warlock has high defense. Just pop feat, cast Marked for Death (if it's needed), knock the enemy caster down and let the Impaler and Bomber loose. If the warcaster has low ARM, Lanyssa can also help - because she has RNG 10 POW 12 magical attack.

The other option is not so obvious. Impaler, Bomber and the rest of the list could be used to clear the way for  a ninja Earthborn. Earthborn already has Pathfinder and Grim can give him the Hunter ability (with Cross Country). If Grim hits and damages the target, Earthborn gets +2" of movement. Lanyssa can cast Hunter's mark on the target, giving Earthborn another +2" and a free charge. Finally, Earthborn gets +2 to SPD if he starts his activation within 2" of rough terrain (keep in mind that this one is situational, but in most games I've played there is always some rough terrain). So, on his charge, Earthborn has a threat range of 5 + 2 + 2 + 2 +3 = 14", and he does not need to be forced. Of course, you need to have clear charge lane to pull this off - the rest of the list could be used for punching a hole big enough for EBDT. If grim pops his feat and uses Marked for Death, EBDT will hit it's target easily. Grim can also knock the target down so when EBDT charges... you get the picture. The best part is that if Cross Country is on EBDT he can ignore forests, so if there is any forest near the table center, that may be a good position.

Whelps are in the list because you will need to have some way of discarding Fury - Grim can't do it on his own and these warbeasts can generate a lot of fury.

    The flexible part

Now, this part of the list can be configured in many ways. Long riders are good option, because Cross Country is great on them and they can slam, do impact hits, they cannot be taken down so easily and their threat range is decent. for 12 points, you can take minimum unit of Long riders and Horthol, so you will have access to Follow up and boosted impact hits. They are excellent for knocking things down and clearing the way for Earthborn or for shooting.

The other unit that comes to mind is Gatormen Posse. They are great here because they can have Pathfinder, they are hard to take down and their damage output is very high. Because they have access to Pathfinder, Grim does not need to spend his Fury to cast spells on them. Grim's feat and spells help EVERY model in your army - that is one of the many good things about this warlock.

That would be all for this time. Tell me what do you think about this list; any comments are appreciated. Have fun! Here's some Troll music for the end:

Battle report: Cygnar vs. Legion of Everblight (35pts)

Last night I played 35-point game against Cygnar. This was the list I played:
    - Epic Thagrosh
    - Carnivean
    - Typhon
    - Shredder
    - Warmongers (5)
    - Warmonger warchief
    - Forsaken

On the other side of the table was the Cygnar army:
    - Commander Coleman Stryker
    - Ironclad
    - Lancer
    - Charger
    - Precursor knights (6)
    - Arcane Tempest Gun Mages
    - Gun mage adept
    - Black 13th Gun Mage Strike Team
    - Lady Aiyana and Master Holt
    - Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord
    - Reinholdt

Cygnar went first. During the first turn, they moved into position. I was a little worried because of all that shooting - my caster is on a large base, so it's very easy to get a line of sight to him. During my first turn, the beasts advanced; Typhon used his animus, Thagrosh used it as well. Thagrosh cast Dragon's blood on warmongers and moved forward. Warmongers run. Forsaken gets some fury and that's it.

Precursor Knights advanced and used Shield Wall order. Everyone else moved a little bit closer. One Warmonger was shot to death by... someone (I can't remember). On my turn, I decide to put some hurt on those gun mages and charger before they get to me. Carnivean and Typhon use their spray attacks, but unfortunately, I kill only one model - I was unable to hit high DEF, even with boosting. Typhon also puts some decent damage on Charger with one of his sprays. Warmongers charge Precursor knights and Lancer. Some knights die, but my Berserk attacks fail to hit the Knights, even with Warchief in play. Warmonger who charged Lancer rolls snake eyes as his charge attack. Blah. Thagrosh goes on the hill, and uses Typhon's animus. He uses his spray attack to kill one of the Precursor knights. Now it's going to be tough.

    End of  turn 2
And it is: Aiyanna hits Thagrosh with Kiss of Lyliss and then Gun mages, Charger and Hold shoot at him. Good thing is that Thagrosh is on the hill, so his DEF is 15 - and Typhon's animus helps a lot. Anyway, after the dust settles, Thagrosh is left on 3 hit points. That was close. Anyway, I get a Shredder (yaay!). I also had one Fury point for transfers. B13th Team kills one Warmonger and Lancer advances so Stryker can cast some spells on Thagrosh. He uses Arcane blast, but misses, and then pops his feat.

On my turn, Warmongers kill the rest of the Precursor Knights, but they also hit each other, because of the Berserk rule. Warchief charges Holt and kills him, then kills Aiyana, then hits charger, but deals no damage because of it's high armour. Carnivean kills 3 Gun Mages, Rhupert and Gun Mage Adept, while Typhon kills Charger. Shredders charge Lancer to deal some minor damage and annoy him.

Stryker tries to hit Thagrosh with his guns and spells but the damage he rolls is too low to penetrate Thagrosh's armour. Ironclad does nothing, just tries to block charge lanes to Stryker. B13 fail to damage Thagrosh. On my turn, Carnivean advances and throws Ironclad on Stryker - and hits. Warmongers then charge the warcaster and kill him.

I haven't played Legion for a long time - and I also haven't faced Cygnar for a long time. My opponent is a great guy and he will get much better - this is only his 3rd game. Epic Thagrosh looks great - but I still have some doubts when it comes to his usefulness. Anyway, I played him in only two games, so I have to play many more before I make any conclusions.

I also got some new stuff for my Trollbloods army:

Yeah, it's Dire Troll Bomber and Whelps. So, my next game is going to be with Trollbloods (I bet this was a big surprise :P). Can't wait to assemble DTB and see him in action. And Whelps are also cool. I am probably going to play Grim Angus. Prepare for some shooting, Troll style!!!

    New epic warlocks for Hordes!!!!

This picture was posted on PP insider blog - it is the new battle journal for Shattered Grounds league. It seems that in the new Hordes book, called Domination (which should be published this year, woo - hoo) we will get new epic Warlocks. Check it out:

    MK1 book collection

Recently, I decided to collect all of the MK1 books for Warmachine. Since I mostly played Hordes during the MK1, I had all Hordes books (and I absolutely love them). For some reason, I wasn't interested in Warmachne fluff, despite people telling me that it's great. But, as the time went, I realized that I enjoy this game more and more. And so, I got Prime, Esalation, Superiority and Legends very cheap - the only book I'm missing now is Apotheosis. Man, I was missing a lot. These books are great. Even now, with all MK2 books finally printed, those MK1 books are still great to have. The story is interesting and the art is fantastic. Funny thing is that I actually believe that MK1 books were A LOT more interesting that MK2 faction books. It was only because you had all of the model description, fluff and art on one place. That made those books unique. I really miss such format.
    Anyway, here's my little collection:

    Here's Borka!!!

Borka is one of my favorite warlocks. I had a lot of fun painting this miniature - and even more crushing my enemies with it. Actually, this is the second time I paint Borka; I painted him for the first time over year and a half ago, but recently I decided that I do not like that pain scheme. I was convinced that I could do it much better now. Here's the result:

    More Legion pictures

You can take a look at my Angelius and Nephilim Soldier. All beasts with wings (as well as Thagrosh), have black spots on the back of the wings - like spots on the reptile skin.

    Painted eThagrosh

Finally, I made some proper pictures of my painted minis. Since I play three armies (Trolls, Legion and Khador) and I do not have as much spare time as I would like, I am painting very, very slowly. To make things worse, I decided to paint some older minis again, because my painting skills got better so I know I can paint those minis much better now. Anyway, here is the most recently painted model:

Soon, I will start taking pictures of my other minis, as well as Rick's and Dejan's - so expect to see our online miniatures gallery taking shape in the next few weeks. Next model I am going to paint is Typhon. Expect some WIP pics.

    New forum signatures

I made these simple Warmachine/Hordes forum signatures. I love the whole "local" thing.

    Still here...

First of all, happy New year!
"The Nyss and that" is still running - expect to see some interesting posts very soon. The first one will be up by the end of this week and it's an epic battle report - Rick and me played 150 pt game last week. It was so intense and demanding that we are still feeling the consequences. :P

After that, expect to see (finally) some cool pictures of our painted models. I did some painting in last few months and I'll post some pictures soon.

Of course, that's not all. Stay tuned!
